School Report
I am very proud to highlight the activities and achievements of Fathima Public School (FPS). The School began with 40 LKG students in the academic year 1999-2000. FPS has consistently grown over the years and presently the school conducts up to Senior Secondary (+2) classes. The school has 3 acres of land with well-established infrastructure, smart class, laboratory, and library facilities. I present this report under 8 categories.
1.0 CBSE Affiliation and Minority Status:- FPS obtained CBSE affiliation to conduct up to Secondary classes. Later in 2013 obtained sanction to conduct Senior Secondary classes. To date, five batches have completed their Secondary studies in FPS and all of them passed out with 100% results with a high academic profile. FPS started the first Senior Secondary Science batch in year 2014. FPS attained Minority status in the year 2013.
2.1 Academic Work:- The school follows CBSE curriculum. KG to +2 Class teachers use Smart class, other audiovisual aids, various laboratories besides the blackboards for effective teaching. Computer classes are conducted in our well equipped computer lab that makes learning more enjoyable. FPS has four Supervisors; one each for KG, LP, UP and HS sections. They closely monitor the staff and students academic activities and report progress to the Vice-Principal.
2.2 Performance Evaluation:- Students academic progress are assessed through CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation). FPS has implemented a new computer software for this purpose. Presently student academic evaluation is done in the computer. Promotion is based on pupil academic progress throughout the year. IX and X students are evaluated by Formative and Summative Assessments. FPS has an Examination Team, a group of four senior teachers under Vice-Principal supervision, to organize and conduct examinations in a systematic way. Open Houses are conducted after each assessment. Parents discuss the progress of their wards with the respective teachers. Parents fill up the feedback form and submit to the class teacher. The weak students were identified and remedial classes arranged.
3.1 Co-curricular Activities:- Students Co-curricular activities are also assessed and grades given. This is an integral part of FPS routine activities and gives chance to every student to exhibit and develop their talents. For this purpose students are grouped under four Houses. Each House is monitored by a House Leader (a Teacher), House Captain (a Boy Student) and House Vice-Captain (a Girl Student). The four Houses are Pioneers House Achievers House Performers House and Winners House The Performers House scored top in the recently conducted Co-curricular activities.
3.2 Sports and Games:- The annual athletic meet was held on 22nd and 23rd January 2014. The ceremony began with a colorful and rhythmic march past of all four Houses. The slow march by the perfects designates down the aisle to line up on the dais administering of oath of office, pinning badges by the respective House leader were the major events of the spectacular ceremony.
Besides sports activities FPS has facility to develop student’s talent on Games. FPS has teams for the outdoor games like Football, Cricket, Badminton etc. and Indoor Games like Caroms, Chess, Roller Skating etc. FPS witnessed proud moment when FPS team won the second prize in the district football competition conducted by KISA at KIP school, Kottarakkara.3.3 Karate and Dance Class:- FPS students participate in the Karate class, and get training continuously. Many girls attend the dance class and develop their talent in Dance. Special time tables are scheduled and trainers assigned for these.
3.4 Red Cross Student Unit:- Junior Red Cross unit with 12 students with a supervisor is functional in FPS . The Team members attended a one day “Road Awareness Seminar and Workshop†conducted at Anchal. They actively supported and participated during Republic Day Rally and Run-Kerala-Run program.
3.5 Clubs and Activities:- FPS has various functional clubs. Students according to their interest join in one or more clubs and take up projects as a team. The club activities are managed by the club coordinators (two teachers). FPS has Eco/Nature club, Maths club, Science club, Quiz club etc.. Of these clubs, the nature club is the most active one.3.6 Eco/Nature Club:- FPS has registered a Forestry club with Government of Kerala with Reg.No. 610. A two days nature education camp was conducted at Thenmala Eco Tourism centre last August in which 40 students and 4 staff participated. A seminar was conducted in connection with wildlife week celebration by the department of Wildlife and Forest, Government of Kerala, in our school. Forester Mr.Mathaikutty inaugurated the seminar. The nature club of FPS has grown up a medicinal plant garden on the campus and is nurtured by the club members. Recently a medicinal plant exhibition was conducted in our school. Number of medicinal plants was exhibited with labels containing the plants local name, scientific name, useful parts and the medicinal value. FPS has been selected by the ENVIS Government of Kerala for spreading environmental awareness to the students and the public under the project Paristhithikam with a theme of Water for Sustainable Life. In this theme FPS conducted an essay and a painting competition for students of Punalur educational district. Cash Awards, Medals, and Certificates were issued to the winners of these programs. FPS students, teachers and parents worked together and developed a poison-less vegetable garden and agricultural plants in the school. Vegetables getting ready to harvest by end March 2015.
3.7 Science Club:- Organises/participates science classes, seminars and discussions. One class conducted recently was on Space Science Mr. Satheesan, a research student of VSSC, Thumba Trivandrum led this highly informative class. 4 Students participated an open discussion by Mathrubhumi News Channels during World Mental Health Day. 24 Students participated in another open discussion with Netaji forum Kollam held on Netaji Subash Chandra Boss birth Day.
3.8 Quiz Club:- FPS quiz club members, Gadha Nanda and Jyothika P Madhu won first and second prize respectively in the Balajanasakyam Punalur Education District Quiz competition.
3.9 Students Counselling Centre:- Recently Dr. Shahisha of Punalur Taluk Govt. hospital inaugurated FPS counselling centre after delivering a counselling class to the parents. Further separate counselling classes held by Dr.Abdul Jaleel for students and staff. Counsellor Mr. Sudheer delivered a class on Fearless exam and effectiveness in exam writing.
3.10 Students Educational Tours and Celebrations:- FPS tour and celebration committee arranges students tour and celebrations every year. This year FPS LP students visited Kollam Milma Production Unit, Kerala Koumudi Newspaper Printing Press, Biodiversity Express Train Exhibition. FPS UP students visited Adoor Green Valley Park and HS students visited Cochin Wonderla amusement park.
FPS celebrated Ramzan, Onam, Deepavali, Keralappiravi and Christmas this year also. Independence Day and Republic Day were also celebrated. FPS received second place in the Republic Day rally conducted by Punalur Municipality.4.1 Social Activities & Interactions:- FPS promotes social interactions and support students grow as a social human. Accordingly many activities are planned and implemented. FPS 06 students attended 03 days leadership training camp organized by All Kerala Balajana Sakhyam at Neendakara Kollam. Another 06 attended the IFSM camp at Kottarakkara organized by URI.Other 04 students attended National assembly of URI South Asia Region.
4.2 Charity/Humanitarian Activity:- FPS students visited the Snehatheeram, Vilakkudy and spent hours with mentally challenged and aged, sharing their sorrows and happiness. The team donated cash, cloths, washing soaps, soap powder etc to the Snehatheeram as a token of love and affection. FPS Students regularly provides financial support to physically disabled people and medically bedridden. Students work as a team and collect money from other students. This money is send to the Indian Association for the Blind to take care the blind people. Also donate money to support the bedridden AIDS patients.
4.3 Railway Station Beautification:- As part of the community work FPS Teachers and Students beautified the Punalur Railway Station and installed flowering plants. 40 flower pots were kept around station premises.
4.4 Medical Camps:- FPS conducts medical camps frequently for the public. One Homeo Medical camp was conducted in association with the standing committee, Health and welfare, Punalur Municipality. The second medical camp by the Little Flower Hospital Vilakkudy. Pediatric, Ortho, General medicine, Dental and Gynecology Doctors consulted the patients and medicines were given free of cost. The recent camp is the Free Eye check up camp by Shanker hospital.
4.5 Honouring Elderly Gurus:- This year an elderly couple both retired from government school has been honoured by FPS family. Mr. Fasil and his wife Mrs. Latheefa were the guests honoured with ponnada.
4.6 Honouring Outstanding Performance:- The school honoured Dr. Shahirshah (Superintendent of Taluk Hospital, Punalur), Mr. Sasidharan Nair (SI Janamaithri Police,Punalur) and the blind Mr. Shemeer (MA first rank holder, Kerala University) for the excellent performance in their respective field.
5.0 Students Personality Enhancement:- Many activities are organized for uplifting student awareness and to develop their personality. FPS traffic team members together with class VII students attended a traffic awareness class on International day against drug abuse organized by Police Excise department at Punalur. Another seminar on Drug addiction and its bad influence on life is conducted in FPS by Mr. Biju T Philip and team. This seminar was supported by a mind touching video show. YAMS soft skill trainer in the FPS campus ensures effective communication in English through students and staff interactions,
6.0 FPS National/International interactions:- Greshma P Raju and Sruthi Pradeep FPS students were selected and interacted with Dr.A.P.J Abdul Khalam at MGM model school Varkala. Greshma P Raju was also selected for Young Leaders Program (YLP) and attended the Fusion Leadership Camp†at Amritsar Delhi. Subsequent to this she was nominated as Youth Ambassador of URI worldwide. Further she attended the Holy Book conference held from 31st Jan to 04th Feb 2015 at Columbo, Sri Lanka in which she presented a paper on Holy Book and Eco Spirituality Mr Mathew John, Mr Lian Chinn and Miss Krithika, URI initiative youth leaders, San Fransisco, USA, visited FPS last year and interacted with our students. Mr Mathew John has visited FPS this year also and addressed the senior students on the subject Peace and Youthâ€. As a memory of their visit to our school a PEACE TREE was planted. FPS Principal was selected as a keeper of wisdom, South India and Sri Lanka region to attend world indigenous conference in San francisco USA hosted by URI.
7.0 FPS Students Achievements:- FPS students attend Unix, Brilliant and Global Talent Scholarship examinations every year. This year Varsha S Vinod and Swathi R received the first and fourth prizes respectively from Unix, Alfina Sajeev and Anjana Suresh bagged 3rd and 10th ranks respectively in Brilliant Scholarship Exam, Asif S received little star award and Keerthana G received little master award in Global Talent examination.
8.0 FPS advances in Technology:- FPS use advanced technology for effective teaching and school management. Special school management software has been installed and in service for managing the students and staff complete data. Students performance evaluation is carried out in computer. Student daily attendance is recorded in computer and from computer the parents receive messages in their mobile before 11am if the child is absent for that day. Smart Class, Teaching using Laptop and Projectors are the other areas FPS advanced in technology.
By God grace FPS has advanced with remarkable achievements and looking forward to leap in to greater heights in coming years with everybody support.
